Spiritual Warfare: 4 Tactics Satan Uses Against Christians (Biblical Truth to Overcome)

Beloved,

Have you ever felt distracted from God, confused about your purpose, trapped by lies, or isolated in your struggles?

As Christians, we are engaged in a spiritual battle whether we realize it or not. The good news is that God has not left us defenseless. His Word equips us with wisdom, discernment, and truth so we can recognize the enemy's tactics and walk victoriously in Christ.

One of the reasons I wrote Emergence: How to Experience Beauty and New Life in Dead and Dark Places was to help believers identify the subtle ways the enemy works and, more importantly, to reveal how Jesus empowers us to overcome.

My desire isn't to create fear. It's to create awareness.

When we recognize the enemy's schemes, we become better equipped to stand firm in our faith, protect our hearts, and walk confidently in God's purpose for our lives.

As Scripture reminds us:

"We are not ignorant of his devices." (2 Corinthians 2:11)

Let's look at four spiritual warfare tactics every Christian woman should be aware of.

1. Distraction: When the Noise of the World Drowns Out the Voice of God

One of Satan's most effective strategies is distraction.

The enemy wants our attention fixed on temporary things rather than eternal things. He wants us consumed by social media, comparison, entertainment, worries, ambitions, and worldly pursuits until our relationship with God slowly takes a back seat.

The eyes are the window to the soul. Whatever we continually allow into our minds and hearts will eventually influence our thoughts, attitudes, and actions.

I've often told my children:

"You are what you put in."

You are what you read.

You are what you watch.

You are what you listen to.

You are what you dwell on.

If we're constantly feeding our flesh, our flesh will become stronger than our spirit.

The enemy knows that if he can keep us distracted, he can keep us from hearing God's voice.

As I wrote in Emergence:

"It's time we put down the poisoned apples that the enemy has to offer, and pick up the fruits of the Spirit that God has to offer."

Instead of allowing the noise of the world to dominate your attention, fix your eyes on Jesus and make time daily for prayer, worship, and God's Word.

2. Deviation: When the Enemy Tries to Pull You Away from God's Purpose

The enemy doesn't always try to destroy us overnight.

Often, he simply tries to redirect us.

A small deviation from God's path can eventually lead us far from where God intended us to be.

Satan wants us to pursue our own will rather than God's will. He wants us chasing temporary fulfillment instead of eternal purpose. He wants us wandering in confusion rather than walking in confidence.

Many years ago, I learned this lesson firsthand.

As I share in Emergence:

"It was the fear of abandonment that inspired me to abandon God's ways and to seek love from another; ironically, it was the abandonment of others that left me deserted and inspired me to return to God."

The beautiful truth is that even when we wander, God lovingly calls us back.

If you've drifted off course, remember that God's grace is greater than your mistakes. He specializes in restoring what has been lost and guiding His children back to His perfect plan.

3. Deception: When Lies Disguise Themselves as Truth

Perhaps the enemy's oldest tactic is deception.

From the Garden of Eden until today, Satan's strategy has remained remarkably consistent.

He whispers lies designed to make us question:

Who God is
Who we are
God's goodness
God's promises
God's purpose for our lives

The enemy wants us to believe that God is withholding something good from us. He wants us to think we'll find fulfillment outside of God's will.

But deception rarely appears dangerous.

It often appears desirable.

As I wrote in Emergence:

"The devil doesn't come dressed in a red cape and pointy horns. He comes disguised as everything you've ever dreamed of."

The enemy presents what appears to be a beautiful opportunity, relationship, desire, or shortcut.

Yet beneath the surface lies destruction.

"The enemy dangles a beautiful juicy, ripe apple in front of us that appears promising, yet is filled with rotten deception."

What promises satisfaction often steals the very thing we were hoping to gain.

This is why discernment is so important.

Pray for wisdom.

Study God's Word.

Test everything against Scripture.

The more familiar you become with God's truth, the easier it becomes to recognize the enemy's counterfeits.

4. Division: Isolation Is the Enemy's Invitation

One of the most dangerous places a believer can find themselves is isolated.

The enemy loves to separate us from God and from other believers because he knows we are stronger together.

When we become discouraged, wounded, ashamed, or exhausted, our instinct is often to withdraw.

Yet isolation creates vulnerability.

As I wrote in Emergence:

"Isolation is the enemy's invitation."

God designed us for community.

We need fellow believers who encourage us, pray for us, speak truth over us, and remind us of God's promises when we're struggling to remember them ourselves.

The enemy attacks when we are weak, weary, and vulnerable.

But there is strength in Christian fellowship.

There is strength in accountability.

There is strength in God's presence.

And as I share in the book:

"The enemy is less likely to mess with us when others are around, and he is sure to flee from us when Daddy is in town."

Surround yourself with trustworthy Christian influence—people who speak life into you and point you toward Jesus.

Never fight spiritual battles alone.

The Good News: Jesus Is Greater Than Every Attack of the Enemy

While spiritual warfare is real, we must never forget this powerful truth:

Jesus is greater.

The enemy may distract.

Jesus refocuses.

The enemy may deceive.

Jesus reveals truth.

The enemy may divide.

Jesus restores.

The enemy may attempt to steal, kill, and destroy.

Jesus redeems, rebuilds, renews, restores, and resurrects.

One of my favorite truths from Emergence is this:

"Jesus is greater than our enemy. He can redeem, rebuild, renew, restore, and deliver us from anything the enemy takes from us."

No matter what you've walked through, God is not finished with your story.

He still brings beauty from ashes.

He still brings life from dead places.

He still brings hope into hopeless situations.

And He is still calling His daughters to emerge into who He created them to be.
